BAC’s award-winning Schools’ Programme connects the UK’s most visionary artists with thousands of children and young people every year in a wide range of collaborative projects. We work in close partnership with teachers, local borough councils and artists to provide imaginative and inspiring creative opportunities for both Primary and Secondary schools. The programmes below are available for Summer term and the 2011/12 academic year. All projects are flexible and can be tailored to individual class needs, each is individually priced with details available on request, and some subsidised projects are available.
1) Artist Teacher Exchange
The Artist Teacher Exchange programme offers the opportunity for teachers and artists to come together for a unique programme of collaborative training. Participants experience a range of workshops and masterclasses from education and arts specialists and are partnered together to create collaborative creative projects in the classroom. The programme offers teachers and artists the time and space to learn from each others’ methods; exchanging skills, ideas and processes. Artist Teacher Exchange is open to artists and primary and secondary teachers of all subjects and specialisms and applications for 2011/12 will open in the summer term.

3) Artist Residencies
BAC’s Artist Residencies offer the opportunity for teachers and children to collaborate with world-renowned theatre artists through specially-designed sustained programmes of workshops in the classroom. The work centres on the creative dialogue between artist and child, devising together their own inspiring new piece of theatre, which is performed to friends and peers. Projects are created to relate directly to curriculum requirements, and also stimulate the imagination, enhance speaking and listening skills and visibly build self-confi dence. Residencies are created in partnership with individual teachers and are fl exible to meet curriculum and class needs. We can also create bespoke projects around requested topics and artforms.
‘The Children all loved it! They have been inspired to make up stories orally independently, especially at free times. The majority of the
children made good and noticeable progress in the writing assessment last half-term’ Teacher – Residency Project, autumn 2010
4) A Cat Escapes
A Cat Escapes is a six week learning adventure inspired by S.F Said’s Varjak Paw books developed by Coney and BAC in partnership with year 3 teachers and Juliet Desailly (Primary Education and Creativity Consultant). The adventure tells the story of a cat who has been taken prisoner and needs the children’s help to escape. The workshop places KS2 curriculumbased challenges at its heart and is delivered through email correspondence to the class, using a mixture of story-telling and gameplay.
‘This was the single best project I’ve worked on during my 22 years as a teacher’ Yr 3 teacher Furzedown Primary School, and collaborator on A Cat Escapes.
5) The Beatbox Alphabet
The Beatbox Alphabet is a teaching resource covering KS2 music curriculum through beatboxing.
