A film installation of two moving image works made from performances during BAC's BURST Festival earlier this year.
Both films take the idea of the Anthem as a starting point for questioning the constructed nature of social collectivity.
In You’ll Never Walk Alone, a private performance is recorded on camera as the artist sings this famous football anthem to willing passers-by on the street. Not a professional singer, the artist's rendition of the song interrupts the everyday and in doing so attempts to convey a personal moment of solidarity between the artist and her listener.
The Running Ensemble is a running club choir. Heard running through the streets of the city, they arrive at BAC's Grand Hall where they perform their club Anthem. With its melodic chorus and grandiose lyrics, accompanied by each runner’s breathlessness and sweat, this Anthem becomes an expression of physical and emotional endurance and unity.
