ultimatum:ultimato-te is the enlightening journey of a man between Europe and Africa. It is a reflective experimental piece of physical theatre that explores human nature at its core. Who are we despite the colour of our skin? Who are we despite the diversity of our cultures? Who are we despite these ridiculous straight lines that for more than a century divide Africa?
At the end of the XIX century several European countries went on a dispute for the non-claimed lands of the African continent, known as: “the Scramble for Africa” – and resulted in occupation and annexation of African territory by European powers during the New Imperialism period, between the 1880s and the First World War in 1914. Meanwhile, as an outcome of the sketching of these straight lines, a disagreement between England and Portugal in the dispute of lands resulted in the British Ultimatum of 1890.
