We run projects linked to subjects such as History, Citizenship and English, accompanied by classroom resource packs containing cross-curricular activities. Each project culminates in a performance or installation presented by the children at Battersea Arts Centre.
Previous projects include The Hero Machine (Dec 2013-Jan 2014) where illustrators Pencil & Help teamed up with children from Shaftesbury Park, St Joseph’s Catholic and Falconbrook Primary Schools to explore what it means to be a ‘Hero’. The children learned about the history of Battersea’s extraordinary residents and their work appeared as part of The Hero Machine installation at Battersea Arts Centre.
‘The children loved it! They have been inspired to make up stories independently. The majority made noticeable progress in the writing assessment last half-term.’
We regularly offer artist-led workshops in schools to accompany group visits to Battersea Arts Centre performances. Previous workshops have covered puppetry, physical theatre and animation.
Each year, hundreds of young people from Wandsworth and beyond participate in making theatre through our Homegrown programme for 12-29 year olds. We run Homegrown Taster Workshops in schools, bringing professional theatre-makers and young people together to explore a range of art forms, including theatre, music, beatbox and dance. We can tailor workshops to different year groups as either one-offs or longer experiences. For more information please email email@example.com.
It was a fantastic experience. I am now considering a career in theatre design.’
