FRESHLY SCRATCHED U25: CALL OUT

FRESHLY SCRATCHED AT HOMEGROWN FESTIVAL

Join us for a week of bold ideas, live music and performance from young voices, tackling everything from racial tensions to the addictive nature of tesco value meals. See a show from emerging and UK theatre companies, watch a gig from up and coming unsigned artists and get inspired. Our Freshly Scratched U25 will be held from 8pm on Tue 3 Apr 2018.

OPEN CALL OUT FOR ARTISTS (16 - 25)

Freshly Scratched is an open platform at Battersea Arts Centre for emerging artists to try out new ideas in front of an audience. As this Freshly Scratched event is part of the HOMEGROWN Festival the open call is directed at artists from the age of 16 to 25.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Young artists making new work in theatre, performance, spoken-word, poetry, stand-up comedy, multimedia, live art and cross-disciplinary work.
  • Unconventional and innovative work.
  • Interactive performance that acknowledges the presence of the audience.
  • Work that might also take place in public spaces around our building.
  • Work developed through devising process. We do not tend to programme plays or theatre in the traditional sense.

WHAT CAN I SHOW?

We are interested in artists that push boundaries. We are interested in artists who want to reach out to people who would not otherwise go to art centres – and we are interested in work that looks and feels new.

We are encouraging applications from artists working in a range of art forms of theatre, performance and work that explore cross-overs with other art forms, including theatre, performance, music, spoken-word, poetry, stand-up comedy, multimedia and digital art.

Freshly Scratched is an opportunity to try out short ideas in front of an audience at an early stage of development. It is not about presenting polished segments of pre-existing work. It’s about taking risks.

We are excited to give this opportunity to artists who have a genuine interest in exploring an idea in front of an audience, taking risks with the material presented and using audience feedback in order to help think through the next steps in developing their work. For the right work at the right time, they are a unique opportunity.

Each idea can last anything up to 10 minutes. Usually six or seven pieces will be programmed alongside each other, creating an evening of rough and ready flashes of inspiration.
