The Times on Can I Start Again Please

vessel is about how we gain and maintain stability in the unstable world of contested narratives, alternative facts and irreversible consequences.

The text, offered through a polyphony of four diverse voices, provokes contemplation of agency, privilege and representation by placing the domestic within the global and the private within the collective.

vessel takes the medieval practice of Anchoritism, which saw women choosing a life of confinement within a locked cell housed within a church, to ask the across-centuries question of where can spaciousness be found?

Sue MacLaine is a theatre-maker with a singularly driven voice, creating work that is both provocative and compassionate. Sue is the winner of a Total Theatre Award for 'Innovation, Experimentation & Playing with Form (Can I Start Again Please).

Co-commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre and Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts
Funded by Arts Council England with support from University of Manchester, The Place & Unity Theatre Trust.
