HERITAGE TRAILS

Explore the hidden corners of Battersea Arts Centre, through the people, stories and values that have shaped its 125-year history.

Discover 13 unique artworks which celebrate the common values held by generations of extraordinary people in Battersea’s history, by following their footsteps though the old town hall.

Maps to help you discover all 13 are available at the welcome desk for free whenever the building is open.

Playfully uncover hidden history and curious artworks with a self-guided trail created by theatre-makers and artists. You’ll discover the stories of people with important roles in this building’s and the borough’s past. From political activists like Charlotte Despard and John Archer, to the entrepreneur and trailblazer Hilda Hewlett, right through to contemporary heroes of Battersea Arts Centre’s story in the 21st century, these trails introduce you to the people whose values have become instilled into the fabric of the old town hall, who form the beating heart of our community – and how their stories became our story.
