Headlined by Phil Wang
Join us for a stellar line-up of live stand-up comedy in our open-air Courtyard. See some of the best acts from around the country return to the stage for the first time in 4 months - trying out new material for your viewing pleasure.
Phil Wang has made a name for himself exploring sex, romance, politics and his British-Malaysian heritage, in shows that delight in his unique brand of smart-silly stupidity. Broadcast credits include Have I Got News For You (BBC One), hosting Live at the Apollo (BBC Two), Taskmaster (Dave), performing as one of only two non-US acts on The Comedy Line-Up (Netflix), QI (BBC Two), Would I Lie to You? (BBC One), 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Ch4), The Last Leg (Ch4), Unspun With Matt Forde (Dave), Roast Battle and Drunk History (both Comedy Central) and Jack Dee’s Helpdesk (BBC Two). Phil recently used his outsider perspective to dissect the increasingly binary debates dividing Britain in a new BBC Radio 4 stand-up show, Wangsplaining. He has also written and starred in two series of Daphne Sounds Expensive for BBC Radio 4 with his Foster’s Newcomer Award nominated sketch trio, Daphne. An internationally acclaimed live act, Phil has performed at festivals including Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the New Zealand Comedy Festival. His last critically-acclaimed live show, Kinabalu, sold out at Edinburgh Festival in 2017 and the subsequent national tour was extended through 2018 including four weeks at Soho Theatre.
Semi-finalist in So You Think You’re Funny?, Amused Moose Laugh-Off, and part of Fringe favourites WitTank, Kieran Boyd has been performing his inventive, high-energy stand up across the country for five years. He gigs for Avalon, CKP, The Stand, Komedia, and Highlight amongst others as well as numerous shows at the Edinburgh Festival. 2020 has seen him support Ed Byrne and Ed Gamble on tour. Kieran performed at the Edinburgh Festival as part of The Comedy Zone, the Fringe’s longest running and most prestigious stand-up showcase. His solo shows have received great acclaim from audiences and critics. With sketch trio WitTank, Kieran received a Best Show Nomination at the Leicester Comedy Festival, and appeared on Three at the Fringe (BBC3) and BBC Radio Scotland. WitTank can be seen as stars of 3 series of the acclaimed comedy show, Live At the Electric (BBC3) and have filmed their own sitcom pilot for E4.
Carl Donnelly is your MC for the evening. Carl’s conversational, silly sense of humour has seen him win a host of awards (Chortle Best Club Comedian 2017; Chortle Best Newcomer 2007; Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2007; among others) and become a regular at all of the finest comedy clubs in the UK and Ireland. Carl has been described as an 'observational genius’ by The Guardian and his comedy as 'a touching and hilarious account of embarrassment and the fragility of modern masculinity' by The Sunday Times.
Comedy-Rap-Jazz duo and Guardian Pick of the Fringe Harry & Chris blend award-winning wordplay, awe-inspiring musicality and eyebrow-raising bromance and unashamed joy to their audience. They write fast-paced and tongue-in-cheek lyrics rapped over soulful melodies with poignant messages behind them. Together the pair have generated a devoted following with their family friendly, feel-good songs which have been featured on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky), and heard on BBC Radio 2’s Live From the Edinburgh Fringe, BBC Radio 3’s The Verb, and BBC Radio 5 Live’s Sarah Brett Show. Having played together in various forms for over 10 years, Harry and Chris received a Leicester Comedy Festival Award nomination in 2016, and have continued to performed to sold-out audiences across the UK. Internationally, the pair recently featured on NBC’s flagship comedy entertainment show Bring The Funny with Kenan Thompson, Chrissy Teigen, Amanda Seales and Jeff Foxworthy.
